If you’re going away or moving within Australia or overseas2, we can manage your letters and parcels with our mail redirection and mail hold services. You can extend, alter or cancel your service online or at the Post Office.

We can hold your letters and parcels and deliver them when you return.

If you'd like to extend, alter or cancel your service, we can help you online, over the phone or at the Post Office. You'll need your 9 digit customer reference number.
Proof of identity
You must prove your identity when applying for a mail redirection or mail hold service. For a concession service, you must also provide a concession card (if eligible).

Depending on the service, you can apply to extend, alter or cancel your mail redirection or mail hold service online or at your local Post Office.
To extend your mail redirection online or at a Post Office, you'll need your 9-digit customer reference number.

The extension to your service can take up to 3 business days. Your extension letter includes a pay by date. If you miss the pay by date, you’ll need to take out a new service, rather than extend.
You can call us on 13 76 78 if you want to remove your mail redirection service from your dashboard.

If you’re overseas, or can’t get to a Post Office, you can nominate someone else to fill in and take the completed Alter or Cancel form (PDF 1.3Mb) to the Post Office on your behalf. They’ll need to provide proof of identity and written authority from you (the original applicant listed) that includes:
If you decide to cancel your mail redirection or mail hold service, you may be entitled to a refund.
To request a refund, please submit an Alter or Cancel form (PDF 1.3Mb) in person at your nearest Post Office. You’ll also need to show:

If you move house often, a PO Box allows you to keep the same address, even when you move.

1 Terms, conditions and collection time limits apply.
2 You must apply for International mail redirection at the Post Office. Some mail can't be redirected overseas, including Registered Post, Cash on Delivery, Parcel Post, Express Post and items which require customs documentation. We are not able to redirect mail from an overseas address to an Australian address. Please refer to the local postal service in the country you would like your mail redirected from.
